Doctor McKinley offers seminars to share his 38 years of marine aquarium experience.
Anyone interested may ask for further information. These seminars cover
everything needed to
set up and maintain a reef tank. Topics discussed:
-
A brief history of the evolution of the hobby.
-
An overview of water chemistry to understand the "nitrogen cycle"; calcium; pH;
alkalinity; salinity; control of phosphate, nitrate and silicate; etc.
-
Equipment: (including brands and set-up): lighting; sumps; filters;
reverse osmosis filters; protein skimmers; calcium reactors; kalkwasser
reactors; refugia; Deep Sand Bed Filters; Algae Filters; water circulation;
test kits; quarantine tanks; etc.
-
Livestock: "Live Rock", Fish, Corals, Clams, and other Invertebrates. Topics include
recommendations, compatibility, parasites and diseases.
Displayed in the pet shop, the Oceanic Tech 120 gallon reef tank with "Starphire" optically clear
glass uses the best high-tech equipment available. You may also view an economical 50 gallon tank
and a mid-range priced 75 gallon tank in my shop. All tanks contain fish,
live corals and other invertebrates, and demonstrate top-of-the-line equipment
for anyone seriously interested in maintaining a successful reef tank with minimal problems.
Although many systems exist for maintaining marine animals,
Dr. McKinley will describe an optimal system. Since problems
in this hobby can be emotionally and economically devastating, it pays to
utilize the best equipment possible at the outset, combined with proper guidance.
